Exploring New Hobbies: Unleash your Creativity and Passion

By Ev

Last month I decided that ‘women in tech’ would be sweet to my ears, so this month I took a course, got my certificate and, I’m currently reading a book on UI/UX design. Whether or not I will make use of the knowledge remains a question, but I’m learning new things and it’s a challenge that is at the moment keeping my brain engaged. That is the beautiful thing about hobbies. They come without pressure and allow you to dance at your rhythm, and even if you have two left feet, and are completely without rhythm, you’re having fun.Another beautiful thing about hobbies is that they allow for improvisation. Say, for example, you want to bake a cake and your oven is spoilt, you can use a pot or even a microwave. The Internet is readily available for us: you see TikTok videos of people turning shirts into skirts, making meals that intrigue you or even making candles. The minute you think to yourself, ‘I should try this’, please try it. There are little to no disadvantages to doing these things. It is by trying new things that we find the things we are passionate about, and the things we really love. In fact, for some people it ends up being the way that they earn income. It is also argued that hobbies help you to think. If you, for example, pick up journaling, it is an activity that allows your mind to function at its peak and gives room for ideas to flow. Some advantages of exploring new things are the following:
  1. It relieves you of stress. It’s an outlet.
  2. Trying out new things, and meeting new people are like two sides of a coin. A way to connect with new people that have the same interest as you.
  3. Serves as a new feather to your cap.
  4. Lastly, you’re hardly ever bored.
Here is a list of things that you can try out that wouldn’t break the bank:
  1. Learning a new language
  2. Journaling
  3. Reading
  4. Origami
  5. Running
  6. Baking
  7. Candle making
  8. Knitting
  9. Chess
  10. Painting
There is no judgment in learning new things, and these things are not age bound.
