Step 1:

Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl and set aside until the mixture is bubbly. Note that, if your yeast has not bubbled after 10 minutes, it may have expired; therefore, you’d have to use a new yeast packet.

Step 2:

Once the yeast is bubbly and fragrant, add the warm milk, oil, salt, sugar and eggs and stir to mix. You need to stir in flour until the dough comes together to a very sticky mixture.

After that, cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel to let it raise in a warm place until it has doubled in size. You can leave it for about 45 minutes.

When the timer goes off, stir the dough to release the air, replace the kitchen towel and let the mixture rise for another 45 minutes.

Step 3:

Gently stir down the dough and roll it out onto a well-floured surface. You can shape the dough into a large, ½ inch thick rectangle. Then cut out the doughnut shapes with a floured 2- ½ inch doughnut cutter and place it on a greased baking sheet.

Cover the baking sheet with a towel for another 45 minutes to let it rise.

Step 4:

In an electric deep fryer, heat about a quart of neutral oil to 375⁰ F. Then add the doughnuts three or four at a time, taking care not to add so many that the oil will drop more than 10⁰ F. You can fry the doughnuts for about 3 to 4 minutes, flip it until they are golden brown on both sides.

Then dust the doughnuts with confectioners’ sugar (it is optional)

Step 5:

Plain doughnuts are awesome but adding chocolate or jam to the doughnuts are really nice. They become irresistible when dunked in a sweet glaze.

You can make ring doughnuts, filled doughnuts or doughnuts holes. It does not require a lot of hands-on time.
