Partisan Politics: Osun Speaker Reads Riot Act

Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, Najeem Salaam, has read a Riot Act to the state’s civil servants against getting involved in partisan politics.

Salaam, who gave the warning at the assembly’s plenary session in Osogbo on Friday, said it is becoming disturbing to see involvement of some workers in partisan politics.

He said the code of ethics of non-partisanship of civil servants was no longer observed in the state.

According to Salaam, civil servants now freely express their feelings on politics on pages of newspapers and radio stations as if they belong to political parties.

The speaker argued that such attitude must stop, adding that any civil servant caught engaging in partisan politics would be dealt with in line with the civil service rules.

Salaam insisted that any civil servant who wished to join politics was free to do so after he or she might have resigned from the civil service.

He urged the workers to imbibe the spirit of patriotism, service and excellence on which the service was based.
The Speaker further advised that they should have a change of attitude to enhance productivity in the state.
