Finding Inner Peace in a Hectic World

By Ev

Without having to ask, I know that you agree with me that this world is too noisy. The setting and call for action sometimes has us dragging our feet when we manage to move, and other times we’re left behind. I will not stand before you and tell you that the solution is balance, because sometimes balance is a thing of the mind, so thin that it nearly doesn’t exist. The solution is however not fixed, because like every other thing in life, we win some, and take L’s with grace on the rest. I also do not know if I can call the things I’ll tell you tips, but I know it’ll make you lighter, would allow for the horns and overtaking that happens in this traffic called life to be a little more silent.Become selfish. See how it sounds so simple? Like you’ll close your eyes and become selfish. The truth is, it’ll be hard but selfishness does other things for you: it allows your boundaries to be firmer, and gives you room to say no in confidence. It equips your prowess of not settling, and allows you state your terms always. It is only by being selfish that you make sure you’re not given underhand treatment. It changes your consciousness. You become more aware of the sacrifices you allow yourself make and you’re not worn down.It is these things that ensure that your peace is kept, and that you have a space to recede to when the hustling and bustling of life increases its pressure, ensuring that you always have room to breathe and you’re never suffocated.

I can hear your whispers: “But what do I do”?These are some tested and trusted ways:
  1. Make sure your room is as comfortable as it can be. It’s your sanctuary.
  2. Select carefully the things you direct your energy towards. Some things are beyond your control, I know. Let them stay there.
  3. Drop your phone, even if you’re reading this with your phone. Drop it. Take a few minutes, even an hour, for yourself. Pray. Listen to a podcast. Take a walk. Decompress.
  4. What’s your circle like? Who do you laugh with? Who do you share with? If you don’t have one, maybe a sphere? There have to be people who are home to you. Have fun with them too.
  5. Lastly, ensure that at all times you’re doing things for yourself first before others. It is only a cup that is full that can pour.
