- Moisturise: You need to stay moisturised, in your body- with water, your skin- with your lotion/body oil, and in your hair – with water, and hair butter because your hair also needs a lot of care this harmattan season. This is the time to get the extra body oil you need. A body butter is even better as it locks in moisture from your moisturiser and keeps your skin shining even in the dry season.
- Hydration: Dehydration is your friend in the harmattan season, your throat is dry and there’s a lot of dry air that could cause flu and sore throat. Drinking a lot of water protects you from hypothermia which mostly occurs during winter. Staying hydrated helps your immune system, keeps infections at bay, helps you breathe better (because you’re bound to be dehydrated in this weather), and helps your overall body functioning.
- Keep the house warm: You can keep your house warm by having your thick curtains closed after 3pm-4pm when the sun is about to set and the heat has been trapped indoors, putting your rugs on the floor, and making sure all windows and doors are closed. You can also light your house fireplace to stay warm.
- Lip balm: Use it whether you have dry, oily or normal skin. Your lips will be dry during winter, lip sores can also be triggered by the winter. To prevent crusty lips and bleeding lips, make your lip balm your closest friend. Options like Carex, Chapet, and Vaseline are great.

- Eat healthy: Taking care of your health is your most important winter hack, consume adequate vitamins to keep your immune system strong as it is common to stay indoors during winter thereby forfeiting a lot of vitamin D we get outside.
